Dodgers beat the Rockies 13-4 to take the first game of the series
LOS ANGELES, CA -The new-look Los Angeles Dodgers lineup gave their fans plenty to be excited about after beating the Colorado Rockies 13-4 at Dodgers Stadium.
These young guns for the Dodgers, J.D. Martinex, James Outman, Miguel Vargas, and Jason Heyward, have shown they can play in the majors and are paying off.
"You can just sort of see it happening," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. "It's just good because we kept building the inning by getting base hits and walks and things like that. It's a little sample of what we potentially can do."
Michael Grove would pitch four innings for the Dodgers and gave up two hits, three runs, and four strikeouts, but Yency Almonte would relieve Grove to pick up the win.
Ryan Feltner was the starting pitcher for the Rockies going 4.2 innings, giving up four hits, five runs, and seven strikeouts.
Chris Taylor gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning with a home run that brought Jason Heyward across home plate with him.
The Rockies would trail 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning after Elias Diaz hit a double to left field and Ryan McMahon scored. Colorado would add two more runs to lead 4-2 when Harold Castro hit a single to right field, while Mike Moustakas scored, and Castro scored off Jurickson Profar hitting into a double play.
The Dodgers tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single by J.D. Martinez to left-center field that allowed Freddie Freeman and Will Smith to score.
James Outman would give the Dodgers a 6-4 lead when he hit a triple, and Max Muncy and Martinez scored. Miguel Vargas singled, and Outman came home to give the Dodgers a 7-4 lead.
The Dodgers would lead 9-4 when Heyward hit a home run over the right-field wall, and Vargas crossed home plate.
Outman would hit a triple in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Martinez scored to give the Dodgers a 10-4 lead.
The Dodgers would score twice in the bottom of the eighth inning when Will Smith hit a home run over the left-center field wall, and Freeman came across home plate, making the final score 13-4.
