Jaime Jaquez Jr. leads UCLA past Washington State 75-65
LAS VEGAS, NV - The UCLA Bruins advanced to the semifinals after beating the Washington State Cougars in the Pac-12 Tournament at the T-Mobile Arena.
Jamie Jaquez Jr. was the leading scorer for UCLA with 23-points, Jules Bernard with 19-points, and Myles Johnson with 9-points. Washington State's Andrej Jakimovski had 15-points, Tyrell Roberts 14-points, and TG Bama with 11-points.
UCLA led 6-4 with a jump shot by Cody Riley in the first half. Johnny Juzang made a layup to give the Bruins a 10-4 lead. Washington State tied the game 10-10 with a three-point shot by Andrej Jakimovski.
The Bruins led 15-10 with a layup by Tyger Cambell. The Cougars trail 17-15 with a jump shot by Jakimovski. Washington State took the lead 18-17 with a jump shot by Tyrell Roberts.
Roberts' jump shot had the Cougars up 21-19 with 9:34 left in the first half. The Bruins tied the game 21-21 with two free throws by Peyton Watson.
UCLA led 24-21 with a three-point shot by Jules Bernard. Myles Johnson made two free throws to increase the Bruins' lead to 26-21. Watson's jump shot had UCLA leading 28-23.
Bernard would give the Bruins a nine-point lead 32-23 with 3:37 left in the first half, forcing the Cougars to call a timeout. UCLA led 35-23 with a made basket and a free throw by Johnson after being fouled.
Bernard would continue his hot shooting and made another three-pointer to give the Bruins a 38-23 lead. UCLA led 40-25 with a layup by Bernard.
The Cougars trail 40-28 at halftime. Bernard led the Bruins in scoring in the first half with 13-points and Jaquez Jr. with 6-points. The Cougars' leading scorer was Jakimovski with 10-points and Roberts with 6-points.
The Bruins led 61-45 in the second half with a layup by Jaquez Jr. Robert's jump shot in the paint had the Cougars down 61-47 with 9:14 left in the game.
UCLA led by twenty points 69-49 with a layup by Jaquez Jr. with 5:02 left in the game. Clark's dunk had UCLA leading 75-55 with1:48 left in the game.
TJ Bamba's three-pointer made the final score 75-65 as the Bruins moved on to the semifinals of the Pac-12 Tournament.
