Londynn Jones leads the Bruins past the Trojans 71-64 at Pauley Pavilion

WESTWOOD, CA - The No.2 rank UCLA Bruins (12-0, Pac12, 1-0) had to hold off a late charge by the No. 6 rank USC Trojans (10-1, Pac12, 0-1) in the second half to come away with a 71-64 win at Pauley Pavilion.

Londynn Jones hot-shooting in the second half and 5 of 8 from three-point range with 21 points to lead the Bruins in scoring, Lauren Betts with 15 points, Kiki Rice with 12 points, and Charisma Osborne with 10 points.

JuJu Watkins led USC in scoring with 27 points and 11 rebounds and talked about in the video below of playing in her first game against UCLA, and McKenzie Forbes with 23 points.

Three factors for the Bruins' victory over the Trojans were second chance points 16 to 6, points in the paint by 26-14, and offensive rebounds 16-7.

UCLA took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter with a three-pointer by Angela Dugalic, a layup by Kiki Rice, and a three-pointer by Charisma Osborne. USC trailed 12-2 after a layup by Osborne and called timeout with 4:49 left in the quarter.

Juju Watkins scored her first basket in her first game against UCLA with a jump shot, trailing 14-4. Watkins would make back-to-back pairs of free throws to cut into the Bruins' 14-8 lead. UCLA led at the end of the first quarter 14-11 with a three-pointer by Kayla Padilla.

The Bruins led 15-11 in the second quarter with two free throws by Lauren Betts. Watkins drove to the basket for a layup and fouled on the shot, made her free throw to give USC their first lead 15-14.

Jones would tie the game 25-25 with another three-pointer at the top of the key. UCLA regained the lead 28-27 with a three-pointer by Jones.

USC took the lead back 29-28 with a pair of free throws by Watkins. That lead didn't last long as the Bruins retook the lead 30-29 with a layup by Betts.

The Trojans led 33-32 with a layup by Forbes. Watkins continued to shine for the Trojans by knocking down a jump shot at the free throw line to give them a 35-34 lead. UCLA would go up 38-37 at halftime after Dugalic made a three-point shot.

In the third quarter, the Bruins refocused and went up 50-39 on the Trojans, capped off by a layup by Betts. The Trojans trailed by nine points, 50-41, with a jump shot by Watkins. Forbe would knock down a three-pointer and USC down by six points, 52-46, with 1:58 left in the quarter.

Kiki Rice, with a driving layup, had UCLA leading 56-46. USC trailed 56-51 with a jump shot by Watkins. The Bruins led 58-51 at the end of the third quarter when Osborne made a jump shot to close out the quarter.

USC was down at the start of the fourth quarter, 58-53, with a fall-away jump shot by Forbe. USC was down by two points, 58-56, with a jump shot by Forbe in the front of her bench.

Watkins had the Trojans down by one point, 60-59, with a deep three-point shot. Jones, with a step-back three-pointer, had UCLA up 63-59.

Betts, with a layup, had the Bruins leading 65-61 with 4:21 left in the game. Jones continued to rain three-pointers on the Trojans and knocked down another to give UCLA a 68-61 lead. The Bruins would hold on to beat the Trojans 71-64.
