The Bears received the kick-off in the first quarter and had excellent field positions after a 50-yard return to their 47-yard line. Andy Dalton drove the Bears' offense down the field to the Rams' 5-yard line.
Moments later, Dalton's pass was pick-off in the endzone by the Rams' David Long Jr. Matthew Stafford, and the Rams offense didn't waste any time scoring after Stafford threw a 67-yard touchdown pass to Van Jefferson and the extra-point was good, and the Rams led 7-0.
The crowd was buzzing after the touchdown by Jefferson as Stafford looked very comfortable running the offense.
"I've done everything I can to work as hard as I can and get myself in this team, and they've wrapped their arms around me," Stafford said. "It felt good to go out there and play with them tonight. Such incredible players on this team. I'm lucky to be a part of it. I want to do everything I can to try and lead this team where it wants to go."
DeSean Jackson made his debut with an 18-yard pass from Stafford for a first down at the Bears' 40-yard line. The Rams increased their lead to 10-0 after Matt Kay kicked a 53-yard field goal.
Jalen Ramsey made his presence felt with two tackles that cost the Bears to lose yardage. The Rams Aaron Donald (DT) sacked Dalton, fumbled the football, and recovered by the Rams' Kenny Long (ILB)
Stafford threw a 17-yard swing pass to Darrell Henderson Jr. (RB) in the second quarter that gave the Rams a first and goal on the Bears' two-yard line. The Bears' defense held, and Kay made a 22-yard field goal that now made the score 13-0.
The Bears made the score 13-7 after a three-yard touchdown run by David Montgomery to end the first half.
Stafford completed 10 of his 13 passes for 151-yards and one touchdown and Dalton 13 of 17 passes for 96-yards and one interception. Jefferson led the Rams with receptions with two catches for 80-yards and one touchdown.
The Rams led 20-7 in the third quarter after Stafford threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Kupp and the extra point was good. Justin Field came back in the game and scored on a three-yard touchdown run, and the Bears trailed 20-14.
Stafford threw a pass to Kupp for 17-yards to the Bears' 1-yard line to set up a first and goal. Moments later, Henderson scored on a 1-yard touchdown that increased the Rams' lead to 27-14.
In the fourth quarter, Robert Woods would score the final touchdown for the Rams, after Stafford threw a two-yard touchdown pass to him that made the final score 34-14.
The Rams head coach Sean McVay liked what he saw in Stafford and their offense, and the sky is the limit.
"We only threw it 26 times, but he certainly made the most of those plays, and I thought he did a great job," McVay said.
Ramsey had a solid game on defense with nine tackles and had great praise for the way Stafford played against the Bears.
"His command, his swag, everything was great," said All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who had nine tackles. "That's like a debut that probably should go down in history, just the way he played, his swag. I'm not all into the stats all the time, but his stats were probably crazy, too. I mean, that was just a debut that was nice."
The Rams will travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts next Sunday and should be a good test for Stafford and company.
