The 49ers make progress on the 7th day of training camp
SANTA CLARA, CA - the San Francisco 49ers provided their faithful fans with something to look forward to on offense and defense. Before the team took the field, Jimmy Garoppolo was front and center as he threw crisp passes with the trainer.
Austin Moss, who doubles as the team DJ and Director of Player Engagement, had the entire stand rocking and feeling the good vibes.
You would have never known that things were spicy the day before when stud wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk got into a physical altercation with defensive enforcer Fred Warner.
The defensive star of the day was cornerback Deommodore Lenoir who had a pick-six interception and multiple pass breakups. Aiyuk was the offensive star who scored a touchdown in the Red Zone and made a couple of amazing catches over nearby defenders.
Safety Jimmie Ward said, " B.A. has taken it to another level…I don't think I have won a one-on-one matchup with him yet."
As the 49ers try to solve their starting rotation at the center and guard position, they continue to allow defensive pressure directly in the face of quarterback Trey Lance.
This issue will never go away at practice because Arik Armstead and Javon Kinlaw are two of the best interior linemen in the league.
Lance is going to be well prepared for the season when he has to escape the pocket. It was also clear that the holdout of wideout Deebo Samuel has impeded his timing and connection with Lance.
At this point, the 49ers' defense appears to be ahead of the offense. However, offensive guru and head coach Kyle Shanahan should continue to give his defense a run for the money.
