The Grizzlies beat the Clippers 120-114 in their home seasonal opener

LOS ANGELES, CA – Paul George scored 41-points as the Los Angeles Clippers (0-2) hosted the Memphis Grizzlies (2-0) for the season home opener loss 120-114 at the Staple Center.

The Clippers starting five were Reggie Jackson (PG), Eric Bledsoe (SG), Paul George (SG), Ivica Zubac (C), and Marcus Morris Sr (SF).

The Grizzlies went with Ja-Maront (PG), Desmond Bane (SG), DeAnthony Melton (SG), Steven Adams (C), and Jaren Jackson Jr. (PF).

The Clippers seem to be a step slower than the Trail Blazers and had problems keeping up and getting back on defense.

“The emphasis needs to get back [defensively], especially against these fast teams,” George said. “I think we’re still getting out of preseason mode.”

The Clippers led the Grizzlies at the end of the first quarter, 34-25, with George scoring 10-points, followed by Jackson and Luke Kennard, both with 8-points. Bane led the Grizzlies with 8-points and Morant with 7-points.

The Clippers led 48-42 in the second quarter after a jump shot by Terrance Mann. Reggie Jackson pushed the Clippers’ lead up to 52-43 with a floater in the key.

The Grizzlies trail the Clippers 56-51 after a jumper by Morant with 2:56 left in the first half. Morant made another jump shot that made the score 58-56 with 1:25 before halftime.

DeAnthony Melton had the Grizzlies down by one point, 60-59, but Jackson's jump shot at the buzzer made the score 62-59 at halftime.

Paul George and Reggie Jackson scored 14-points to lead the Clippers in scoring and Isaiah Hartenstein 9-points, and Kennard 8-points.

Morant led the Grizzlies with 15-points and DeAntonyMelton with 13-points, and Jaren Jackson with 12-points.

The Grizzlies led the Clippers 78-71 in the third quarter with a pull-up jump shot. Memphis was up by fourteen points 87-73 with a put-back basket by Adams. The Clippers trail the Grizzlies 91-77 after Hartenstein's floater in the key.

Paul George's three-pointer had the Clippers down 93-89 with 33.2 left in the quarter. The Grizzlies led 97-89 at the end of the third quarter with a basket by Melton.

Luke Kennard made two free throws that made the score 104-94 in the fourth quarter. Melton made a layup that had the Grizzlies leading 108-99 with 6:38 left in the game.

Dane's three-point shot had the Grizzlies up 111-101, but a three-pointer by George and a jump shot by Eric Bledsoe had the Clippers trailing by five points 111-106 with 4:00 minutes left in the game.

George was fouled on his shot attempt and made both of his free throws that made the score 111-108, and the Grizzlies called a timeout.

The Clippers were within two points of the Grizzlies 116-114 but came up short and lost 120-114. George led the Clippers in scoring with 41-points, Jackson 17-points, Bledsoe 12-points, and Hartenstein 11-points.

Morant led the Grizzlies in scoring with 28-points, Melton 22-points, Jackson Jr. 21-points, and Bane 19-points.
