The Raiders come from behind to stun the Ravens at home 26-23
BALTIMORE - The Las Vegas Raiders (1-1) defense did its job of keeping them in the game, and after Gardner Minshew threw for 276 yards, one touchdown, and one interception was enough to beat the Baltimore Ravens (0-2) on the road 26-23.
Las Vegas did a better job of getting the ball to Davante Adams, who had nine catches for 110 -yards and one touchdown, but the composer and poise of Minshew with clutch plays and the game-winning field goal by Daniel Carlson, showed the toughness and the will to win.
"I look forward to continuing to build on that momentum," Minshew said. "Everybody feels pretty great about it. There's a ton of tape to clean up. We're going to do that, but I think everyone feels and believes what we can be as an offense."
The Raiders had three penalties for 15 yards the whole game, while the Ravens had 11 penalties for 109 yards.
"I told these guys last night and throughout the week to beat one of the best teams in football last year and to beat one of the best players in the game, Lamar, we need all the units to play at their best," coach Antonio Pierce said. "It all came down together in the fourth quarter."
Maxx Crosby had two sacks, and the Raiders defense kept pressure on Lamar Jackson while passing for 247 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
In the first half, there was not much offense at all from both teams as Baltimore led at halftime 9-6 thanks to their field goal kicker Justin Tucker's 48-yard field goal in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead, and a 42-yard and 32- yards. Daniel Carlson for the Raiders would kick a 53-yard and a 51-yard field goal.
Baltimore would increase their lead to 16-6 in the third quarter after Jackson threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to his wide receiver Zay Flowers. The Raiders would trail 16-13 with a 1-yard touchdown run by Alexander Mattison.
In the fourth quarter, Baltimore went up 23-16 with a 3-yard touchdown run by Derrick Henry, but Minshew and the Raiders would respond with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams to tie the score 23-23 with 3:54 left in the game.
Las Vegas' defense would force the Ravens to punt, and Minshew would drive their offense downfield to set up Carlson with 27 seconds in the contest for the game-winning 38-yard field goal, now led 26-23.
The Ravens had one last chance of coming from behind after Jackson ran down downfield and had to lateral a pass backward to one of his teammates, and after other backward laterals, one of their players threw a forward pass, which was a penalty to end the game.
