Turnovers and penalties helped the Huskies beat the Trojans 52-42

LOS ANGELES, CA - Costly turnovers and penalties helped the No. 5 rank Washington Huskies (9-0, Pac-12 6-0) beat the USC Trojans (7-3, Pac-12, 5-2) at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum 52-42.

Caleb Williams completed 27 of his 35 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns, Austin Jones carried the football eleven times for 127 yards, and Tahj Washington had eight catches for 122 yards and one touchdown.

Dillion Johnson for the Huskies had a great day carrying the football twenty-six times for 256 yards and four touchdowns, and the Heisman candidate quarterback Michael Penix Jr. completed 27 of his passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns, and one interception.

The USC Trojans got the football ball first, and Caleb Williams drove their offense downfield for 75 yards and scored on a two-yard touchdown run by Raleek Brown to take a 7-0 lead.

Washington would respond with Michael Penix Jr. taking the offense 75 yards and tied the game 7-7 with a 2-yard touchdown run by Dillion Johnson with 3:10 left in the first quarter.

Williams, in the backfield, was pressured by the Huskies' defense, rolled to his left, and threw a 19-yard pass to Branon Rice for a first down at the Trojan's 44-yard line.

The Trojans' special teams player, Duce Robinson, blocked the Husky's punt, and Carson Tabaracci covered the football at their 8-yard line.

On the turnover, Caleb Williams would score to give with a 1-yard touchdown run to give USC a 14-7 lead.

The Huskies, with third and eighteen, would tie the game 14-14 after Penix Jr. was flushed out of the pocket and ran to his left to throw a 22-yard touchdown pass to his tight-end Devin Culp with 11:37 left before halftime.

Austin Jones broke free for 31 yards to give USC a first down at the Huskies 44-yard line. On the next play, Darwin Barlow ran for 43 yards down to the Huskies 1-yard line. Barlow, rewarded from his previous run, would score on a 1-yard touchdown run, which helped USC regain the lead 21-14.

USC's lead didn't last long, as Washington's Dillion Johnson broke free for a 52-yard touchdown, tying the game 21-21 with 6:44 left in the second quarter.

The Trojans used a miss direction run by Brandon Rice running to his left, turned back to his right to avoid a Huskie defender, pitched the ball back to Caleb Williams, who threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to Tahj Washington, and USC took the lead 28-21.

The Huskies on fourth and sixth at the Trojan's 34-yard line, Penix Jr. threw a pass to Rome Odune for a first down at the Trojan's 8-yard line. Washington would tie the game 28-28 with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Ja'Lynn Polk.

Caleb Williams, pressured by the Husky's defense, was sacked by Zion Tupuola-Fetui and fumbled the football, and Washington recovered the football on their 12-yard line. Washington took advantage of the turnover, as Johnson ran in for a 1-yard touchdown run to give them their first lead of the game, 35-28 going into halftime.

The Trojans, in the third quarter, tied the game 35-35 after Williams connected with Rice for a 25-yard touchdown pass on the left side of the endzone. The Huskies would regain the lead 42-35 with a 1-yard touchdown run by Penix Jr.

USC would bounce back and tie the game 42-42 with a great catch by Mario Williams on the left side of the endzone for a 20-yard touchdown.

The Trojans got the stop they needed in the fourth quarter to hold the Huskies to a 43-yard field goal by Grady Gross to trail 45-42. Washington's defense may have made the play of the game by sacking Williams for a 12-yard loss and taking them out of field goal range.

Johnson would put the final nail in the Trojans' coffin when he scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 2:20 left in the game, which made the final score 52-42.
