USC rallied in the second half to beat Oregon State 81-71

LOS ANGELES, CA - The USC Trojans (14-1, Pac12, 4-1), being idle for about two weeks, had to shake off the rust, and came from behind to beat the Oregon State (3-12, Pac12, 1-4) at the Galen Center 81-71.

Chevez Goodwin led the Trojans in scoring with 20-points and 12 rebounds, Drew Peterson with 17-points, Boogie Ellis with 14-points, and Isaiah Mobley with 11-points.

"It was an ugly game for us," said Mobley. "My team trusted me down the stretch. I was running on fumes. We've had to grind it out."

Oregon State took a 3-0 lead before Boogie Ellis tied the game 3-3 with his three-point shot. The Beavers went on a 7-2 run to lead 10-5 after a three-pointer by Warith Alatishe.

USC trail 14-10 after a three-pointer by Isaiah Mosley. The Trojans were down 16-12 after a hook shot by Joshua Morgan.

The Beavers played some great defense with back-to-back block shots in the paint, keeping USC from scoring on their possession. The Trojans were down by one point 16-15 when Ellis made another three-point shot.

The Beavers led 23-15 after a three-pointer by Jarod Lucas with 9:00 minutes left in the first half. Drew Peterson nailed a deep three-point shot that had the Trojans down 25-19.

Lucas torched the Trojans' defense again on offense with another three-pointer making the score 29-19. Chavez Goodwin's reverse layup had the Trojans trailing by six points, 30-24, with 4:47 left in the game.

USC trailed Oregon State 35-26 after making another three-pointer with 2:11 left before halftime.

Ethan Anderson was fouled on his three-point shot attempt and made his free throw that made the score 35-29. USC tied the game 37-37 after a dunk by Goodwin and a three-pointer by Ellis.

The Beavers responded by taking the lead into halftime 42-37 with a layup by Warith Alatishe. Ellis led the Trojans in scoring in the first half with 10-points, Drew Peterson with 8-points, and Goodwin with 6-points.

"Everyone on Oregon State who shot the ball in the first half, the ball was going in," Enfield said. "Sometimes you have those nights when the opponent gets hot. They certainly were in the first half tonight."

Lucas led Oregon State in scoring with 16-points, 5 of 8 from three-point range, and Alatishe 11-points.

Peterson's jump shot at the start of the first half made the score 42-39. Oregon State led 49-41 after a layup by Dashawn Davis.

Oregon State led 54-45 with a layup by Davis. Goodwin made another layup that had the Trojans behind by three points 56-53. Reese Dixon-Waters made two free throws that made the score 56-55.

USC got their first lead of the game 57-56 after a pull-up jump shot by Peterson with 10:29 left in the game. The Beavers got a technical foul, Dixon-Waters made two free throws, and USC led 59-56.

The Trojans led 65-59 after Dixon-Waters' three-point shot with 9:10 left in the game. Lucus would not let the Beavers go down without a fight, and made another three-pointer making the score 65-62.

The Beavers tied the game 65-65 with a three-pointer by Lucus with 7:18 left in the game. Goodwin would make a dunk to give the lead back to USC, 67-65. Peterson's three-pointer had the Trojans up 70-67.

Oregon State retook the lead 71-70 with a tip-in basket by Alatishe with 3:15 left in the game. Mobley made two free throws to give the lead back to USC 72-71.

Mobley made back-to-back baskets, increasing the Trojans' lead to 76-71. Goodwin made one free throw that made the score 77-71. Ellis's floater in the key and Peterson's two free throws iced the game for the Trojans making the final score 81-71.

Lucus finished the game leading Oregon State in scoring with 27-points, followed by Alatishe with 15-points, and Davis with 11-points.USC will host Oregon on Saturday at 8 PM.
