The Astros Heading back to the World Series, Again!
Following their dominating performance against the Mariners in the AL Division Series, the Astros dominated the Yankees and defeated the Bronx Bombers in in four games to boost their postseason record to a perfect 7-0. Friday marks the beginning of the World Series between the National League champion Philadelphia Phillies and the American League champion Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.
In the four-game series, Jeremy Peña hit.353 with two doubles, two home runs, and four RBIs, earning ALCS MVP honors.
With another victory in Game 1 of the World Series, Houston will become the seventh club to begin a postseason with at least seven straight victories, breaking the previous mark of 2014 Royals. The Astros also have a chance to become the only club in the Divisional Era (since 1969) to have an unbeaten postseason, joining the 1976 Reds (who played a total of seven games). With 11-1 records, the 2005 White Sox and 1999 Yankees share the Wild Card Era record (since 1995).
Since 2015, Houston has eliminated the Yankees from the playoffs four times, including victories in the ALCS in 2017 and '19 and '22. The Astros are seeking to capture their first championship since 2017 as they return to the World Series for the fourth time in the previous six years. Houston will play the Phillies of the NL East, who finished the regular season with an 87-game winning streak, after losing in seven games to the Nationals in the Fall Classic in 2019 and in six games to the Braves the previous year.
