ANAHEIM CA, - In his eleventh career start, the Los Angeles Angels rookie pitcher Reid Detmers (2-1) threw a no-hitter and Mike Trout hit two home runs in a 12-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night at Angel Stadium.

The 22-year-old left-hander allowed a walk to Taylor Walls in the sixth inning and Brett Phillips reached first base on an error by Jared Walsh. It was the 12th no-hitter in Angels history.

“Getting the last out was the coolest part," Detmers said. "It's just something I've dreamed of ever since I was a little kid. I didn't think it would ever happen."

Brandon Marsh and Mike Trout opened the first inning with back-to-back singles. Shohei Ohtani’s fly out to center moved Trout to second base and Marsh to third base.

Anthony Rendon grounded out to second and Marsh scored from third to give the Angels a 1-0 lead. First baseman Jared Walsh hit a single to bring in Trout and the Angels took a 2-0 lead. Jack Mayfield struck out swinging to end the threat.

After Luis Rengifo doubled, Andrew Velazquez also doubled to score Rengifo from second base. Velazquez would then come around to score on a sacrifice fly from Marsh to give the Angels a 4-0 lead in the second inning.

Trout capped the second inning with a 425 solo home run to center field and the Angels grabbed a 5-0 lead. It was Trout’s eighth home run of the season.

The scoring onslaught continued in the bottom of the third inning when catcher Chad Wallach hit a 3-run home run to left field to give the Angels an 8-0 lead.

Tampa Bay’s starting pitcher Corey Kluber had a rough start and was not able to recover after allowing 11 hits and eight earned runs through three innings of work. Jason Adam replaced Kluber in the fourth inning.

In the eighth inning Trout extended his multi-homer franchise record with a two-run home run to give the Angels a 10-0 lead. After Ohtani doubled to deep right field, Rendon hit a two-run home run from the left side to extend the lead to 12-0.

Detmers, who was the Angels' first-round pick in 2020, finished the game with 108 pitches, one walk, and two strikeouts.

The Angels and Rays will play the final game of the series Tuesday with Shohei Ohtani (3-2) taking the mound for Los Angeles. Shane McClanahan (2-2) will get the start for the Rays.
