Dodgers hold on to beat the Dbacks 7-6 in the first game of the doubleheader

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers (23-12) remain in first place after beating the Arizona Diamondbacks (18-19) in the first double-header game at Dodgers Stadium.

Ryan Pepiot got the start for the Dodgers and allowed the Dbacks Josh Rojas and Christian Walker to get on first and second base with two outs, but was able to get out of the first inning, not giving up any runs.

Arizona took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Pavin Smith hit a single to right field, and Josh Rojas scored.

The Dbacks would lead 3-0 after Christian Walker hit a two-run home run over the center-field wall.

Will Smith had the Dodgers trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run.

Mookie Betts tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run home run over the left-center-field wall. The Dodgers lead 4-3 when Trea Turner hit a solo home run over the left-field fence.

''I just think we're getting going a little bit better,'' Trea Turner said. ''I feel like nobody has really played up to their potential other than maybe Mookie right now, and maybe Freddie. We know there's a lot more in there, so hopefully going forward there's a lot more home runs up and down the lineup. We're all dangerous players, so I expect more of that.''

The Dodgers continued to add more runs to their total in the bottom of the sixth inning, led 6-3 when Justin Turner hit a two-run home run over the center-field wall.

Arizona would trail 6-4 in the top of the seventh inning when Alex Thomas hit a solo home run over the right-center-field fence. The Dbacks continue to scrap being down 6-5 when Ketel Marte hit a single to center-field, and Jake Hagar scored.

Freddie Freeman gave the Dodgers a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when he singled to right field, and Mookie Betts scored.

Marte scored the last run for Arizona in the top of the ninth inning, making the final score 7-6 as the Dodgers took the first game of the doubleheader.
