Dodgers get the sweep with a 10-3 win over Miami

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers got home runs from Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy while rookie pitcher Ryan Pepiot threw six strong innings to help the Dodgers defeat the Miami Marlins 10-3 on Sunday at Dodger Stadium.

"It definitely meant the world that (Dave Roberts) let me go out there and stay out there," Pepiot said. "He trusted me to get the job done and I was able to pull through."

Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after Mookie Betts reached base on an infield single and Will Smith knocked him in with a single to center field.

Joey Gallo tripled to deep right field before Cody Bellinger hit a 2-run home run to right field for a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Max Muncy hit an RBI single to right field and the Dodgers took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, JJ Bleday led off with a walk. Lewin Diaz hit a 2-run home run to cut the Dodgers lead 4-2. The Dodgers extended the lead on Betts' RBI single and Smith's RBI ground-rule double to right field. The Dodgers took a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Muncy hit his 16th home run of the season to give the Dodgers a 7-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Miami got a solo home run from Bleday to make it 7-3 in the top of the eighth inning.

The Dodgers added three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the score 10-3 when Will Smith hit a single to left field that scored Trea Turner, Justin Turner singled to center field and Freddie Freeman scored, and Hanser Alberto hit a sacrifice fly-ball that allowed Smith to score.

Los Angeles will begin a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. Julio Urías (13-6) is expected to get the start in the series opener.

Miami's right-hand pitcher Pablo Lopez (7-8) will start the series opener against the Oakland Athletics on Monday.
