Jalen Hurts and the Eagles beat the Rams 23-14 at SoFi Stadium
INGLEWOOD, CA - The Los Angeles Rams had several chances to win the game, but their offense in the second half came up short, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 23-14 at SoFi Stadium.
Matthew Stafford completed 21 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns, and in his return, Cooper Kupp had eight catches for 118 yards, and Puka Nacua had seven catches for 71 yards.
Jalen Hurts for the Eagles threw for 303 yards, completing 25 passes, one touchdown, and one interception, and carried the football fifteen times for 72 yards, and one touchdown.
His receivers, A.J. Brown, had six catches for 127 yards, and Dallas Goedert with eight catches for 117 yards and one touchdown.
The Eagles, on their first possession, drove downfield and took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter with a six-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts to his tight-end Dallas Goedert on 12 plays and 75 yards.
Cooper Kupp's first reception was for 17 yards. The Rams would tie the game 7-7 on their first possession after Matthew Stafford threw a 3-yard touchdown to TuTu Atwell on the left side of the endzone on 12 plays and 75 yards.
Philadelphia took a 10-7 lead in the second quarter after Jake Elliott kicked a 34-yard field goal with 2:15 left before halftime.
The Rams would take the lead 14-10 with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Stafford to Puka Nacua with 32 seconds left in the half.
The play of the game from the Rams' defense came when the Eagles had 1st and ten at their 20-yard line and Hurts in the shotgun formation threw a pass intended for A.J. Brown, and was intercepted in the endzone by Ahkello Witherspoon (CB) for a touchback.
The Eagles would regain and take the lead into halftime, 17-14, after a horse-collar and pass interference on the Rams' cornerback Derion Kendrick, allowing Hurts to score on a 1-yard touchdown run.
Stafford completed 12 of 17 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, and Kupp, in his first game, had six catches for 95 yards.
Hurts threw the football 23 times, completing 16 passes for the Eagles for 152 yards and one touchdown.
Philadelphia would lead 20-14 in the fourth quarter with a 26-yard field goal by Elliot. Elliot would make the final score 23-14 after kicking a 26-yard field goal to help the Eagles improve to 5-0, and the Rams fell to 2-3.
The Ram's next game will be at SoFi Stadium on Sunday at 1:25 p.m. to take on the Arizona Cardinals.
