JuJu Watkins throws out the first pitch as the Dodgers bounced back to beat the Angels 7-2
LOS ANGELES, CA - After losing to the Angels on Friday Night 3-2 in extra innings, the Dodgers bounced back to beat the Angels 7-2 to split the Freeway Series at Dodgers Stadium.
The big buzz of the night was the USC Trojans Women's Basketball Superstar JuJu Watkins in attendance and threw out the first pitch before the game got started. On the night, the Dodgers wore their new second-edition City Connect Jerseys for the game.
Tyler Glasnow (8-5) pitched 7.0 strong innings and gave up only 2 hits, two runs, and strikeout ten batters.
The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run by Gavin Lux over the right-center field wall.
Moments later, Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run home run over the right-center field wall to give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead.
Since Ohtani moved to the lead-off spot after Mookie Betts broke his risk, in the last six games, he is 11-for-24 with four home runs, 11 RBIs, six walks, and scored eight runs.
"Ohtani is leading the league in hitting, leading the league in home runs, he's right there in runs driven in -- it's pretty special," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. "The last few weeks, there just hasn't been a player better."
The Dodgers would increase their lead to 4-0 when Andy Pages doubled into center-field and Freddie Freeman scored.
The Angels in the fourth inning, had men in scoring position on second and third base and scored to trail 4-1 when Willie Calhoun grounded out, and Nolan Schanuel scored.
The Dodgers had the bases loaded with one out, and Will Smith walked, and Miguel Rojas came home to make the score 5-1. Freeman would hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field for the second out, and Cavan Biggio crossed the home plate, and the Dodgers now led 6-1.
Gavin Lux in the bottom of the fifth inning, singled into left field, and Rojas would score to give the Dodgers a 7-1 lead.
The Angels would score their last run to make the score 7-2 in the top of the seventh inning after Logan O'Hoppe hit a solo home run over the right-center field wall.
The Dodgers will be in Chicago on Monday for a three-game series against the White Sox.
