Kershaw and the Dodgers keep rolling after beating the Brewers 7-1
LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their winning ways, have won 10 straight after Clayton Kershaw (11-4) got some great run support to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-1 at Dodgers Stadium.
Kershaw pitched 5.0 innings while giving up three hits and one run, and the Brewers starting pitcher Wade Wiley pitched 5.0 innings and gave up seven hits and four runs.
The Dodgers have been red hot and 14-1 since August 1st, finding different ways to win games, and the pitching is better from the starters and bullpen, and Kershaw feels like they are playing their best baseball.
"Just great baseball," said Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw. "Defensively, guys are making plays all over the field. Offensively, a lot of hits with runners in scoring position. And then pitching-wise, I think everybody has stepped up in the rotation. … And you can't discredit what the bullpen is doing. They've been unbelievable. It's been awesome."
The Dodgers scored in the bottom of the first inning to take an 1-0 lead when Amed Rosario grounded out to third base and Mookie Betts scored.
The Brewers would tie the game 1-1 in the top of the second inning after Kershaw gave up a solo home run to Mark Canha. The Dodgers would regain the lead 2-1 with a home run by Miguel Rojas in the bottom of the second inning.
The Dodgers increased their lead to 3-1 after Betts scored again after the Brewers' catcher William Contreras called for interference on J.D. Martinez.
Will Smith came to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning, hit a sacrifice fly ball that allowed Betts to score to give the Dodgers a 4-1 lead.
Los Angeles would score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after Freddie Freeman got on base after an error by the Brewers' center-fielder Joey Wiemer, Betts scored, and Smith hit a single to center field, and Freeman scored to give the Dodgers a 6-1 lead.
Chris Taylor would score the final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with a home run to center field to make the final score 7-1 to improve the Dodgers’ record to (73-46) 1st in NL West, and the Brewers fell to (65-56) 1st in NL Central.
