LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers made a move and announced that James Paxton, 8-2, who moved into the starting rotation, was sent to assignment to make room for their No. 4 prospect pitcher River Ryan from the Minors, who pitched 5 1/3 innings in his debut, allowed four hits, one run, and two strikeouts got help from Teoscar Hernandez to help beat the San Francisco Giants 3-2 at Dodgers Stadium.

Ryan had a shoulder injury earlier in the season, but when he got healthy, he was at the top of his game, Los Angeles made the move to bring him up. Another factor was the Dodgers' injured pitchers returning soon, they would be in good shape.

"I think it was good to kind of have some expectation on how he was going to compose himself and then it to play out as such, I thought the stuff was good," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts of Ryan's debut. "I thought he was very efficient. He was attacking. I love that."

The Giants scored in the top of the fourth inning to lead 1-0 after Will Smith let a passed ball get by him, and LaMonte Wade Jr. scored from third base.

Ryan would get his first MLB strikeout in the top of the third inning against the Giants shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald with a 96.6 fastball.

"It was great," Ryan said. "There were definitely a lot of emotions up and down all day, but I spent some time with the Lord earlier today, definitely prayed when I got to the mound, and helped me calm my nerves. It was an experience, for sure."

The Dodgers tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo- home run by Teoscar Hernandez over the left-field wall.

In the top of the sixth inning, Ryan allowed base runners on first and third base with one out, and manager Dave Roberts saw enough and replaced him with Alex Vesia to restore order and struck out Luis Matos and Matt Chapman to keep the game tied 1-1.

Teoscar Hernandez gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with a single line drive to center field, and Freddie Freeman scored.

The Giants tied the game 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning with a solo home run by Tyler Fitzgerald.

The Dodgers would win the game 3-2 after scoring in the bottom of the eighth inning after Enrique Hernandez scored on a single by Teoscar Hernandez, and in the top of the ninth inning, Blake Treinen (4-2) would come in and get the win, and with Dan Hudson getting his seventh save of the season.
