The Rams’ training camp at LMU is heaven sent for their fans
LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Rams held their training camp at Loyola Marymount University, and Mathew Stafford was in camp after his contract restructure, which was a good sign of things to come.
At LMU, with their fans in attendance, no long drives to and from Orange County, there was a different vibe with beach-like weather for them and the players, and no blistering heat, nothing but all smiles.
The biggest hype was second-year wide receiver Puka Nacua, who had an amazing season last year for the Rams, and with their first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys coming up on August 11 at So-Fi Stadium.
Today's practice was just a light walk-through, with drills and going over plays on offense and defense, and everyone having a good time. It was nice to see wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, who the Rams picked up, and quarterback Stetson Bennett, who played at Georgia.
Los Angeles hired Mike LaFleur back in January as their new offensive coordinator, and with his knowledge of offenses and the foundation and vision of head coach Sean McVay, Stafford and company are looking to put more pressure on defenses.
"Anytime you can be more versatile within your players, within your scheme, within your personnel groups, it's just going to put more pressure on a defense. So again, there's that balance. We're not out here 30 years ago running 150 plays. So you got to be very selective [on] what you're doing out here. We do get a lot of walk-throughs and stuff like that where again, that's bigger than people understand in terms of the mental reps and what you can get done there. No doubt in that tight end room, there's some weapons in there both in the run game and the pass game and, we'll see how organically it all kind of shapes out when we get closer to the season."
Next week, we will look at the defense, with all the new pieces added to their roster.
