MIAMI, FL - The Miami Marlins' top pitcher, Sandy Alcantara, gets rewarded for their electrifying season. Just this week, Baseball Digest/Ebay picked the sensational right-handed pitcher as the 2022 MLB Pitcher of the Year.

Alcantara received 14 of the potential 22 first-place votes, placing him ahead of Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander. Since 2014, Alcantara's MLB records for innings thrown (228 2/3), complete games (6), and at least eight-inning starts (14) have not been exceeded. His 2.28 ERA in 2022 was the second lowest in Marlins history and the second lowest in the National League, behind Kevin Brown's 1.89 ERA in 1995. In just 25 starts, Alcantara allowed two earned runs or less to his opponents.
