Tennessee Football defeats LSU in a resounding away victory
The Tennessee Volunteers defeated the LSU Tigers in a rout by a score of 40-13. Miscues on the part of the Tigers' offensive allowed the Volunteers far too many more chances. The quarterback of the Tennessee football team, Hendon Hooker, added another game with a strong performance to his Heisman candidacy.
The day of errors for LSU began with a massive error on special teams on the opening kickoff. The Tigers' day began poorly as Jack Bech mishandled the kickoff return.
Early and often, the Volunteers' offense was on display. Five plays into their first possession, Tennessee's offense scored a touchdown.
The LSU offense fared no better than the kickoff team on their opening possession of the game, as they went three-and-out.
Tennessee got quite near to the red zone on the punt return alone as LSU's special teams once again failed. Hooker and the rest of the offense were unable to convert the favorable field position into a touchdown, but the Vols jumped out to an early 10-0 lead.
On LSU's subsequent possession, the offense seemed to be doing better. Jayden Daniels seemed to be setting up tremendous throwing plays, and the running game was also doing well. Everything was going great until fourth and four when LSU was unable to convert.
Tennessee led 13-0 after the Volunteers' field goal attempt in the other direction. On their following offensive possession, the Tigers were once again unable to generate any momentum on offense.
On the first play of their subsequent possession, the Volunteers scored a touchdown. LSU trailed by a score of 20-0, and it seemed like the gap continued to grow. Following an exchange of punts, the Tigers regained some footing in this contest.
Daniels directed LSU's aerial assault to a touchdown for the Tigers' first points of the game. The Vols missed a 50-yard field goal as the half came to a close, giving the impression that LSU had the momentum. The opposite was true.
After a huge grab by Jaray Jenkins on a first down for 22 yards, the LSU offense collapsed badly. Hendon Hooker placed the Volunteers in field goal range after LSU turned the ball over on downs. Tennessee would take a 23-7 lead into halftime.
The second half lacked much excitement. In the second half, Tennessee Football absolutely pummeled the Tigers. This game demonstrated that LSU has a long way to go before it can be considered one of the top teams in the SEC.
Amazing offense by Tennessee Football. This was known going into the game, but today was an additional chance to demonstrate it. Today, Hendon Hooker becomes a Heisman Trophy contender. The 239 passing yards and two touchdowns he accumulated against LSU strengthen his case for the Heisman Trophy.
