L.A. Clippers Foundation gives back to 1000 Families at the Kia Forum
INGLEWOOD, CA - The Los Angeles Clippers have championship aspirations not just on the court this season but within their community as well.
The LA Clippers Foundation was able to help 1,000 needy families this past Saturday at the Kia Forum thanks to the help from supporting partners Planet Fitness and Solar Optimum.
Season ticket holders, volunteers, and Clipper players including newcomer John Wall, as well as Norman Powell, Terance Mann, Robert Covington, Jason Preston, Brandon Boston, and rookie Moussa Diabate, were on hand to help distribute boxes of food.
The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank assisted in packing the food for distribution.
"Giving back to the community is big for all of us. Giving back is a thing we love to do you know, doing our part," said Covington.
The event took place in Inglewood as the organization looks to bolster its ties to the community that will be the future home to the Clippers.
The LA Clippers will be moving into the Inuit Dome after their lease with Crypto.com Arena expires at the end of the 2023-24 NBA season.
Construction for the nearly $2 billion arena is currently underway less than a mile from where the food drive took place.
This event is especially important to the Clippers organization whose home arena is currently less than 4 miles away from the largest homeless encampment in America, Skid Row.
"Being in a beautiful city like this, whenever you come back and touch the people. that's a big factor in the impact you want to have. I think that's just the biggest factor, being able to touch the people and let them know you're normal just like them," said Wall.
The Clippers tip off their season Thursday, October 20th at 7 pm against their rival Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena with both teams starting the season healthy for the first time in years.
