John Wall and the Clippers lose 119-117 to Timberwolves
LOS ANGELES, CA - John Wall, in his first home game appearance as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers, scored 20-points and Paul George with 14-points in their 119-117 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Crypto.com Arena.
Marcus Morris Sr. had 13-points, Robert Covington and Reggie Jackson both had 11-points, Terance Mann had 10-points, and Kawhi Leonard played 17 minutes and made 4 of 8 shots from the floor with 8-points.
The Clippers led 26-16 after Nicolas Batum's three-point shot. Reggie Jackson's three-pointer gave the Clippers a 32-21 lead. The Clippers led at the end of the quarter by ten points, 34-24, after Ivica Zubac made a layup.
Luke Kennard gave the Clippers a 37-24 lead in the second quarter with his three-point shot. Jackson would knock down another three-pointer that made the score 42-26.
The Timberwolves trail 42-31 after Jaylen Nowell made a jump shot. The Clippers were up by ten points, 46-36 when Minnesota's Bryn Forbes made a three-point shot with 6:33 left before halftime.
You can put to rest if Kawhi Leonard's knee is strong after he did a dribble-drive and went up for a monster dunk in front of his bench to give the Clippers a 50-36 lead.
Anthony Edwards put back basket had the Timberwolves down 54-46. Robert Covington's three-point shot at the top of the key gave the Clippers a 59-48. Paul George would follow up that shot with a three-pointer that made the score 62-48.
The Clippers led at halftime 62-53, with George and Morris Sr. both, with 10-points to lead the Clippers in scoring, followed by John Wall and Leonard, each with 8-points.
Karl Anthony-Towns led the Timberwolves in scoring with 10-points, Bryn Forbes with 9-points, and Edwards and Naz Ried, each with 8-points.
The Clippers led 75-60 in the third quarter after George's dunk shot. Anthony-Towns' three-pointer at the top of the key had the Timberwolves down by four points, 75-71.
Minnesota got their first lead 81-79 with a layup by Edwards. The Clippers would regain the lead 83-81, with a three-point play by Jackson. The Timberwolves retook the lead 85-83 with a layup by Jaylen Nowell.
John Wall fouled on his shot and made his free throw to give the Clippers an 89-87 lead. Wall would make two more free throws that made the score 91-89. Minnesota tied the game 91-91 with a three-point shot by Edwards. The Clippers would lead at the end of the third quarter, 93-91, after a jump shot by Wall.
The Clippers led 96-95 in the fourth quarter with a three-pointer by Kennard. Mann, with a driving layup, gave the Clippers a 100-95 lead.
Covington's three-pointer made the score 103-98. Brandon Boston Jr. had the Clippers up 105-100 with 8:37 left in the game.
Mann fouled going to the basket for a layup and made a free throw to give the Clippers a 108-100 lead. Boston Jr.'s jump shot had the Clippers leading 112-108. Reid's jump shot had Minnesota down by two points, 112-110.
The Clippers' rookie Moussa Diabate, made his presence felt on defense after blocking Austin Rivers's shot. Rivers would make a driving layup tying the game 112-112 with 4:02 left in the game.
Mann would give the lead back to the Clippers 115-112 with a three-point shot. The Timberwolves would tie the game again 115-115 after a three-point shot by Forbes.
The Timberwolves led by four points,119-115, with back-to-back baskets by Rivers and Luka Garza with 1:04 left in the game. Boston Jr. drove strong to the basket and made a layup to have the Clippers trailing 119-117.
The Clippers had 2.2 seconds left in the game and had a chance to win the game with a three-pointer, but the shot hit the rim and bounced off at the buzzer. Reid led the Timberwolves in scoring with 20-points and Towns with 19-points.
