ARLINGTON, TEXAS — Based on the performance of quarterback Will Grier, you would have never thought the starting quarterback position for the Cowboys was up for grabs. Grier threw for 305 yards with quarterback Dak Prescott as the signal caller in the preseason finale win over the Las Vegas Raiders, 31-16.

Grier, after one day, the Cowboys acquired Trey Lance via trade with San Francisco. His performance tonight was a great audition for the other 31 NFL teams now that the quarterback room in Dallas is completely full.

With Prescott as the signal caller, Grier completed 29 of 35 passes with two TDs and ran for 54 yards with two more scores.

Owner Jerry Jones said Grier was emotional before the game, knowing what the Lance trade meant for his future. Grier confirmed as much after the game, pausing several times to collect himself while answering questions from reporters.

"The hardest part on me is just leaving this place, to be honest," Grier said. "Got really close with the team. That's the toughest part about what we do. I've been through harder things, and I'll rebound and be just fine."

Aidan O'Connell threw for 178 yards and completed 17 of 26 passes for Las Vegas. His favorite target this evening was Kristian Wilkerson, who finished with ten catches for 122 yards.

With the Raiders, running back Zamir White carried the ball only three times while resting Ameer Abdullah, giving Damien Williams the opportunity to audition, and he left a strong impression. Williams rushed for 54 yards on six carries, including a 24-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter.

"He's a guy that brings some value to your football team. Fits in with our culture. He had a couple of really nice plays tonight, which was great to see," coach Josh McDaniels said.

The Raiders kick off the regular season on the road on September 10 as they face a newly led Sean Payton team, the Denver Broncos.
